"The poor alone demand
your time; treat them with gentleness, with tenderness,
with love. They are the nobility of heaven."...
St. Vincent de Paul
Vincentianism means . . .
- A group of parishioners interested in growing
spiritually as they respond to needs through
person-to-person contact
- An organized way of meeting parish-area needs
- A network—local, national and international—of
Vincentians sharing resources, information and
prayer
- Cooperation with pastor, staff and other parish
groups in ministering to people in need
- A chance for growth through experience “in
the field” and through seminars, workshops,
evenings of reflection
- An opportunity for consciousness-raising in
the parish
- Almost 170 years of experience in serving
the needs of God’s people
HOW
DOES IT HAPPEN?
- Parishioners (at least four to six) form a
Conference.
- They hold regular meetings (weekly or biweekly),
which provide opportunities for spiritual growth
and for discussion of current needs in the community.
- A Spiritual Advisor (priest, religious, or
lay) meets regularly with the Conference for
prayer, reflection and discussion.
- Home visits are made whenever possible to
those known to be in need of material or other
assistance.
- A separate checking account finances Conference
activities. Funds are usually raised through
donations and special events.
