THE MISSION OF THE MATCHAN NUTRITION CENTER
is to serve hot, well-balanced nutritious meals to our neighbors in need, and to provide other life changing assistance leading to self-sufficiency locally in Oakland County.

Open 12:00 PM, Tuesday and Thursday

The Matchan Nutrition Center opened on May 15, 1984 and served 48 people on the first day. A total of 21,483 meals were served during the first year. Currently Matchan operates twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 52 weeks a year.  In 2009, over 30,000 meals were served; and thus far in 2010, the number of meals being served continues to increase over 3%.

TYPICAL MEALS SERVED:

- One or two meat entrées, two vegetables, two salads, bread, butter, drink
and dessert

- Cooked from scratch providing the dignity of offering choices

OTHER ONGOING EFFORTS at the Center include:

Providing Employment Leads in cooperation with Michigan Works’ Job Link Program to find vocational and training programs leading to jobs.

Offering a Legal Assistance Program in cooperation with the Christian Legal Aid Society

Offering on-site Medical Assistance, such as, blood pressure screening and other periodic medical screening (Hep A, Hep B, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis and pneumonia shots) and off-site dental services through Medical & Community Partnerships

Being a USDA Food Distribution Site thru OLHSA as part of The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)

Offering clothing, such as, winter coats, blankets, socks, etc in addition to the SVDP Clothing Vouchers for use in the stores.

Offering a spiritual but realistic environment through Bible classes and hosting young men in the Permanent Diaconate Program and seminarians from SS. Cyril & Methodius Seminary.
