Made in God’s image, every person needs proper sustenance. Adequate food and safe drinking water to nourish the body is a basic right that is essential to the dignity of the human person and to life itself. No person should suffer. Food assistance must work in conjunction with any poverty reduction program. Click here for information on the Feed The Hungry Thanksgiving Dinner. Here families can receive groceries to tide them over until they get back on their feet. Over 75 groups refer clients and donate food, money, and volunteers to our program. Hundreds of individuals support us with food and monetary donations. Each year, the Food Depots and Parish Pantries give out food to over 10,000 persons. Together we carry on the work of St. Vincent de Paul who served the poor with dignity. (more) Southwest Detroit Community Food Depot
Imagine a centralized community Food Depot where clients choose their own food – just like grocery shopping! Each year, SVdP-Detroit provides food for many people across Southeastern Michigan. Specifically, in Southwest Detroit, approximately 350 people are fed weekly through the individual SVdP food pantries. In an effort to compassionately serve more people, increase food purchasing at a great price and support the community better, the SVdP pantries in Southwest Detroit are working to form the Southwest Detroit Community Food Depot. The hope is to have a large enough pantry to serve the entire community at a centralized location. The vision is to have the pantry be client choice, with a loading dock and a way to connect with other services. This is a collaborative effort and members from local businesses and parishes are encouraged to become involved. We are currently looking for a site that will accommodate our vision. Please contact Bill Brazier at 313.393.2925 if you have ideas or want to be involved! |
